Michèle is a Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a UK Trade Mark Attorney. She has 25 years post qualification experience in Intellectual Property (IP).
She has a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from Leeds University. During the course of her degree, she joined a research team in a large multi-national pharmaceutical corporation. She obtained a postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary & Westfield University, London, and started her career in private practice in London.
After eight years in private practice, Michèle spent six years as an in-house patent attorney of a blue chip chemical/pharmaceutical company in Frankfurt supporting diverse businesses, and including negotiating licences and agreements, preparing freedom-to-operate assessments, filing oppositions/invalidity actions, and filing and prosecuting applications for supplementary protection certificates.
On returning to the UK, Michèle set up her own patent consultancy, with a particular focus on pharmaceutical clients in India.
Michèle joined Fry Heath Spence in 2007 and advises on all aspects of IP, including the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide, handling of cases before the Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office, preparation of patent infringement and validity opinions, protection and registration of trade marks and designs, and trade mark infringement and passing-off.
She acts for a variety of clients, ranging from big pharma, through SME drug discovery and drug development companies to start-ups and university spin-outs. She possesses particular experience in recombinant technology, antibody therapies, drug delivery systems, vaccines, diagnostics, DNA sequencing techniques, biologics, and pharmaceuticals.
Michèle speaks both German and Dutch.
