Michael entered the trade marks profession in 2005 after a successful career as a solicitor in the City of London and joined Fry Heath Spence in 2012 from a specialist firm of commercial solicitors. He previously worked for a large London firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and is dual-qualified, being both a UK Registered Trade Mark Attorney and a solicitor. He is also a Professional Representative before the European Community Trade Marks Office.
Michael specialises in all aspects of UK and international trade mark law and practice including clearance searching, prosecution, oppositions, revocation, invalidity and infringement matters. He has experience of ex parte and inter partes hearings before the UK Intellectual Property Office as well as appeals before the Appointed Person and the High Court. He regularly assists clients with the management of their trade mark portfolios around the world.
Michael has more than 10 years’ experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, dispute resolution and mediation work and he enjoys the challenge of finding commercial solutions to his clients’ trade mark disputes, often settling co-existence agreements in the context of opposition proceedings.
His clients include household names in the food, fashion and drinks sectors as well as SMEs in the pharmaceuticals, retail, automotive and sporting goods sectors.
